We made a Volcano

Hello Everyone!

We did a really cool science project today.
We made a Volcano.
Click Here to learn how to make a Volcano

The girls had a blast making the Volcano, and are very eager to show their dad when he gets home.

Here a
re a few Pictures of our Volcano.

What is a Volcano?
Let's first take a look at the earth. The earth is made up of 4 main layers-the inner core, the outer core, the mantle and the crust. The crust is where we live, on the surface of the earth. Below the crust lies the mantle, which is made up of solids, liquids and gases.

Types of Volcanoes(click here for a unit study on volcanoes)
Volcanoes come in all different shapes and sizes, which is often a result of the types of eruptions that occur.
Composite Volcanoes (also called Stratovolcanoes) are the most familiar type of volcano. They are tall, symmetrical, and slope steeply towards a small summit crater. They are usually formed by multiple Plinian eruptions, which omit large amounts of lava in violent, tall eruptions which add quickly to the height of the volcano.
Scoria Cone Volcanoes (also called cinder cone volcanoes) are small cones which are often the result of a single eruption event-usually a strombolian eruption. These types of volcanoes are the most common.
Shield Volcanoes are low, wide volcanoes, formed by low viscosity, slow moving lava which spreads over a many kilometers.

Flywheel the movie

I just watched such a great movie. My husband and I decided to watch a movie tonight, so he went to the movie store and came home with a movie called FlyWheel. It is a Christian movie. I was blown away with it. I cried and cried some more. It has such a great meaning. My family loved it. If your looking for a great Christian film, than this movie is for you.

Watching this movie really got me thinking about my life and how I live it. I'm going to sow my seeds for the Lord! :)

Mark 4:26-27 He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.”

Matthew 13:31-32 “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants...”

Uncle Caleb is leaving for Basic

We had a going away party for my brother last night. I'm going to miss him like crazy. He is going to basic training and then straight to AIT. The party turned out really nice, and the family got lots of pictures with him. I am so proud of him!

My prayer for my soldier brother

I pray God, give Caleb courage
Courage to face and conquer fears
Courage to take him places others will not go.

I ask for his strength, strength to protect others
I ask for his dedication, Dedication to his job, to do it well
Dedication to Our country, to keep it safe.

Please Lord, through it all, be by his side.

I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, CALEB!

Why do I blog?

Why I blog........... well quite simple.

I love the fact I can write about what we are doing, post links and pictures, share with family and friends, and help other home-schoolers or ones possibly considering homeschooling. Oh and also, the girls can look back on what we have done. Kinda like a online home-school scrapbook. :)

How do I find time to blog?......not quite as simple.

I seem to blog really late at night or while the girls nap. That is if they take a nap. Sometimes many days go in between my blogs. I've most generally just been busy, but I will blog again, so keep checking back for updates if you please.

A new Puppy

We got a new puppy! She is a small Westie Dachshund and she has a beautiful brindle coat. We named her Mocha (moe-ka).
The girls fell in love with her as soon as she came through the door.
We just got a small Maltese Chihuahua a few months ago, we named him Mitch.
Anyways Mitch now
has a friend. I could tell Mitch was a bit jealous at first, but he is coming around a little. I joked with my husband that we might have Maltese Chihuahua Westie Dachshund puppies. Oh what a mix!

Learning to Tell Time

Most children don't learn to tell time until they are in first grade, or beyond - But, Its never to early to get them a play clock and start showing them how to tell time. We have started with Breanna and I must say its very cute watching her be so eager to try.
I was listening to music this morning, not even paying attention to it. It was turned down pretty low. Later when I asked Breanna "What time is it?" she replied "5 o'clock somewhere". I thought where did that come from, them I remembered listening to that song this morning. LOL! I can't wait to share this with her daddy.
           Here are some clock resources:
