5 Ways To Make Homeschooling Tremendously Fun!

Take Homeschooling Outdoors

Homeschooling outside is fun! Take a nature walk, explore or do some outdoor science. Observe the changes in the trees, animals, and bodies of water, compared to how they look at other times of year. Watch the clouds, plant a garden, or find a new bug. There are so many things to do outdoors. Just get out and explore and most of all have fun doing it!

Make learning hands-on 

Kids learn best through play and hands-on projects open up a world of opportunities to explore and learn. Hands-on learning enables students to become critical thinkers, able to apply not only what they have learned, but more importantly, the process of learning, to various life situations.

Plan and Take a Field Trip

Plan a trip or two. Need help finding a place to go? Try this wonderful Field Trip Locator. The site has a wonderful map that will help locate museums, zoos, aquariums, planetariums, historic houses, nature centers, cultural centers, and other educational facilities in your state or province.

Play Games 

Are you bored with your regular routine? Plan a day to play games. There are lots of ways you can play games and learn at the same time.

• Card Games - Card games can build memory and strategic thinking.

• Trivia Games - Games of trivia increase the ability to recall information and help children learn to think quickly. They can be used to review Bible verses, vocabulary words, geographical information or any other fun and educational facts.

• Puzzles - Puzzles are great for improving concentration, patience and visual discrimination. They can be worked on as a family or done alone.

• Board Games - Board games are easy to learn, simple to set up, portable, and can be played many times. Many board games present opportunities for math, language, critical thinking, and life-skills development.

• Pen and Paper Games - Because pen and paper games are portable, they are great for carschooling. Word searches, crossword puzzles, hangman, and Mad Libs build vocabulary and language skills. Sudoku games and logic puzzles encourage math reasoning.

Follow Your Child's Interests

Choose a few days each month to let your kids choose the topics. Read books about the topics at your local library and you could also watch videos online to learn more about what they are interested in. Sometimes student guided learning is the best so give yourself permission to follow their interests for a change!
