I hope your day is well. I had a bunch of fun learning activities planned for today, unfortunately I'm just not sure we're going to be able to get it all done. I have a sick little girl today and this mama is sad. :( We are going to try our hardest though to get as much done as we can.
Today's plan includes learning about John Cabot, the manatee, echolocation, and what a tsunami is.

Echolocation Resources
Echolocating animals emit calls out to the environment and listen to the echoes of those calls that return from various objects near them. They use these echoes to locate and identify the objects. Echolocation is used for navigation and for foraging (or hunting).
Okay so bats aren't really part of an ocean unit, but they are part of learning about echolocation. Bats send out sound waves using their mouth or nose. When the sound hits an object an echo comes back. The bat can identify an object by the sound of the echo. They can even tell the size, shape and texture of a tiny insect from its echo. Pretty Cool!
Whales, among other sea animals, use echolocation in order to see through the sometimes murky depths of the deep ocean.
